HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- A former swinger's club in Hollywood is going to get a new life after a church group paid $1 million for the building.
The Xchange Swingers Club opened in July 2001 and ran under the advertised name of Hollywood Catering until November 2001.
Hollywood officials banned the club in March 2002 stating that it "contributed to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases because club visitors engaged in unprotected sex."
The Church Of Hollywood Downtown had its first service April 20 at the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center, but the size of the turnout convinced church leaders they needed to find a permanent space.
Church officials decided to take over the former sex club, and closed the deal on July 21.
Church leaders said they hope to start holding services in the building in the fall.
