MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- There has been a second arrest made in an alleged pre-paid funeral fraud scheme.
Hilbert Mahabir was the first arrest. Now his wife Zabida Hasin is in jail. Both are charged with 670 counts of fraud for allegedly taking nearly $250,000 for pre-paid funerals.
Instead of putting the money in a trust, as required by state law, investigators claim the couple kept the money.
Mahabir was arrested Monday at his funeral home (pictured) on Northwest 37th Avenue and 1st Street. He and his wife own several funeral homes, according to investigators.
